The Barbie Reuleaux Dream Car

a rolling Barbie car with triangular axles and wheels designed to give a surprisingly smooth ride

The Barbie Reuleaux Dream Car is a MathHappens project. It is named for Reuleaux triangles, which—like circles—have constant width, but which—unlike circles—do not have a constant radius.

Here you see the applied-mathematician Barbies, all buckled up and ready for a day of field work in their mathy car.

You can read more about the Reuleaux-triangular axle and wheel mechanism at Mathematical Études. You can read more about MathHappens and Reuleaux cars on the MathHappens website.
